2006-07: Kristin swam her career bests last year in both the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly, breaking the one-minute mark in the butterfly for the first time in her career. Primarily a butterflier, she also swam in the 500 freestyle. She contributed several points for Penn State in dual meets over the season. At Big Ten's she swam her fastest career times in both the 500 free and 100 fly while also swimming her second-best career time in the 200 fly. Her best finish of the season was a third place finish and she also had two fourth place finishes. She swam the fifth-fastest time on the year last year in the 200 fly.
2005-06: Kristin won her first career event when she was part of the 200 medley relay team that finished first in the dual meet with St. Bonaventure. She also was a part of two other relay teams that placed second in meets during the season and also picked up points for the Nittany Lions in individual events in two other meets. Smith also set career best times in the 50 free, 500 free and 200 IM during the year. She was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection. 2004-05: Smith debuted with a fourth place finish against West Virginia in the 200 butterfly. She was only seconds away from beating out West Virginia for third place (2:12.78). Smith finished with an individual best time of 2:05.29 in the 200 fly at the Big Ten Championships. High School: Smith was a member of the National Honor Society and swam for the Columbia Aquatics Association in Columbia, Md. She was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American three times. Personal: Kristin Smith was born on January 10, 1986. Her parents are Nancy and Don Smith of Columbia, Md. Both parents are Penn State alums. She also has a younger sister, Kelsey. Smith is majoring in industrial engineering.
