Summer 2007: Michelle had a busy summer season as she competed in four meets: the Eric Namesnik Memorial and Charlotte Ultraswim of the Grand Prix series, the Mid-Atlantic Senior Championships and U.S. Nationals. At the Eric Namesnik Memorial, she placed 11th in the 100 back and 14th in the 200 back. At the Charlotte Ultraswim, she was 20th in both the 50 and 100 free, fourth in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 back. She was also part of the 400 free and medley relay teams, both of which finished third. At Mid-Atlantic Championships, she was a part of both the 400 medley and 800 free relays teams that both won and set meet records in the process. She also placed seventh in the 200 free and second in the 200 back at Mid-Atlantic's. At U.S. Nationals, she finished ninth in the 100 back and 14th in the 200 back. 2006-07: Michelle was kept busy in the pool as a freshman as she quickly became Penn State's top freestyle sprinter and one of the top backstrokers on the team in addition to being a fixture on all five relay teams. At Big Ten Championships, she scored points in both the 50 and 100 freestyles, becoming the first Penn State swimmer to score in those two events at Big Ten's since 2005. She placed 15th in both events and also placed fifth in the 100 backstroke in addition to being a part of the seventh place 200 free, the third place 200 medley and the fourth place 400 medley relay teams. Michelle just narrowly missed out on an NCAA invite as she was a part of four relay teams that swam NCAA `B' qualifying times and also had `B' cuts in three individual events: the 50 and 100 free and 100 back. She swam the fastest times of the year on the team in those same three events as well and was a part of the fastest times of the year for the 200 and 400 free and 200 and 400 medley relay teams. On the year, she posted two first place finishes in individual events and seven first places as part of relay teams. She also had nine second place finishes and seven thirds overall. High School: Michelle was a part of four District Championship teams at State College Area High. The Little Lions also were state runners-up in 2003 and 2004. As a freshman and sophomore, Myers was a part of two state championship 400 freestyle relay teams, which she lists as her most memorable moment in high school competition. As a senior, she was also the state champion in the 200 freestyle. She was a recipient of the Power of the Paws Citizenship Award and was on the high honor roll all four years of high school. Personal: Michelle was born December 5, 1987 in State College, Pa. She is the daughter of Jim and Sheryl Myers. Her father attended Penn State and she also has a older brother, Eric, who is currently a student at Penn State. She lists woodworking and singing as hobbies and plans to major in something related to wood products and has career aspirations of owning her own furniture-making company. Why I Chose Penn State: "It was the best fit for me academically and athletically and I trusted the coaching staff."
