Summer 2007: Kaitlyn swam in three events at the Grand Prix series Charlotte Ultraswim, two events at the Mid-Atlantic Senior Championships, and in a relay at U.S. Nationals. She finished just outside of getting a second swim in the 100 back at the Charlotte Ultraswim but finished fifth in the same event at Mid-Atlantic Championships. She also finished 20th in the 400 IM at Mid-Atlantic's but did not swim in the finals. At U.S. Nationals, she swam on the 14th place 400 medley relay team with Caitlin Meehan, Kelly Nelson and Molly Crispell.
2006-07: Kaitlyn had a solid sophomore season, which was once again capped off by her scoring points at the Big Ten Championships in the 100 backstroke, finishing 14th and also swimming an NCAA `B' qualifying time in that event. She also swam in the 200 back and 100 butterfly at Big Ten's. Additionally, she also swam in the 200 IM as well as on some medley relay teams throughout the year. Her best finish of the year was a second place finish and she also had six fourth place finishes on the year. Kaitlyn had the fourth-fastest time on the team in the 100 back, fifth-fastest in the 200 back, and the third-fastest in the 100 fly.
Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Finished sixth in the 200 back, eighth in the 200 IM and was part of the fourth place 400 medley relay team....Finished eighth in the 200 back and was on the fifth place 200 medley relay team at the Clemson/Virginia/Virginia Tech/Penn State quad-meet....Placed fourth in the 200 breast in her first career swim in that event and also finished sixth in the 100 back at the Big Cat Invitational....Competed in the 100 and 200 back and the 100 fly at the Bell Grand Prix and swam her fastest times of the year in all three of those events....Finished fourth in the 100 fly at the dual meet vs. West Chester....Placed fourth in the 200 back and was on the fourth place 200 medley relay team at the dual meet vs. Ohio State....Picked up her best finish of the year in any event with a second place finish in the 100 back and also placed fourth in the 200 back at the dual meet vs. Rutgers....Finished seventh in the 100 back and was on the fifth place 200 medley relay team at the Shamrock Invitational.
2005-06: Kaitlyn participated mainly in the 100 and 200 backstroke events during her freshman season and also swam on medley and freestyle relay teams throughout the year while also participating in the 100 butterfly and the IMs. She was a part of two relay teams that placed first in meets. At the Big Ten Championships, she posted her best times of the season in both the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly.
Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Picked up points for the team at the Big Ten Championships with a ninth place finish in the 100 back....Placed fifth in the 200 back, fourth in the 100 back and was on the third place 200 medley relay team at the Indiana/Ohio State/Penn State tri-meet....Won the 200 back and was part of the second place 200 medley relay team in the dual meet with Kenyon....Anchored the 400 free relay team to a second place finish in the dual meet with Rutgers....Swam leadoff on the first place 200 medley relay team and won the 100 fly in the dual meet vs. St. Bonaventure....Placed fourth in the 200 IM vs. Florida....Gained points for Penn State in the 200 IM (18th place), 100 fly (16th place), 100 back (6th place), 200 back (8th place), and on the 400 medley relay (8th place) and 200 medley relay teams (9th place) at the Ohio State Invitational....Part of the first place 200 medley relay team in the meet with West Chester....On the fourth place 200 free relay team and finished fifth in the 100 back at the Auburn/Purdue/Virginia/Penn State quad-meet....Placed fifth in the 100 back at the Arizona/Wisconsin/Penn State tri-meet....Part of the third place 400 medley relay team in the season-opening meet vs. West Virginia.
High School: Ferguson swam at Mamaroneck High School in New York. She was the 2005 New York State Champion in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the title in a time of 57.96. At the 2004 Junior Nationals at Stanford, she won the 50-meter backstroke and was third at Junior Nationals in 2005 in the 50-yard backstroke. She also placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke at that event.
Personal: Ferguson is the daughter of Cathleen and Rich Ferguson. She has two brothers, Shane and Connor, and is majoring in kinesiology at Penn State.
