UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Town and Gown publisher and breast cancer survivor Mimi Barash Coppersmith has signed on to be the primary sponsor of the Second Annual THINK PINK Day on Sunday, Feb. 10 against Iowa at noon at the Bryce Jordan Center. The official name of the event will now be the Second Annual THINK PINK Day proudly supported by Mimi Barash Coppersmith. It is the second year in a row that Barash Coppersmith has had a lead sponsorship role. Last year, the Barash Group was the presenting sponsor of the event. The Lady Lions raised more than $20,000 for breast cancer research in the inaugural event. This year, Penn State announced that it will donate $1 of every single-game ticket sold for THINK PINK Day to the fundraising efforts. The Lady Lions have enacted several fundraising efforts with portions of the money raised going to the following organizations: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Lady Lions have been raising money for THINK PINK Day since the fall, which started with a THINK PINK kick-off event at the football game against Iowa in October. Additionally, the Lady Lions teamed up with the fall women's sports teams (field hockey, soccer and volleyball) to have Think Pink Days during their season to raise money for this year's THINK PINK Day. The Lady Lions are also earning money for the THINK PINK fund through sales of the Official THINK PINK Day T-shirt, the Lady Lion Cager Club THINK PINK Three-Point Challenge, the Shoot-n-Shop card, post-game ball launches, the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Pledge Cards of Hope, the silent auction on Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, as well as the live auction following the game. Breast cancer survivors will receive one free ticket to the game and can participate in a special halftime ceremony. Survivors will also get up to five free tickets for friends and family to attend the game. Survivors interested in participating in THINK PINK Day should call Loren Crispell at 814-865-7286.
The "67 Women - 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania" traveling photo exhibit will be debuting at the Bryce Jordan Center on THINK PINK Day. The exhibit will also be on display on the concourse for the Lady Lions' game against Minnesota on Feb. 14, the men's game against Illinois on Feb. 16 and conclude its stint at the BJC on Sunday, Feb. 17 when the Lady Lions host Michigan State. There will also be a reception for breast cancer survivors and their families following the THINK PINK Day festivities to kick-off the exhibit's time in State College. Additionally, two-time Pro Bowl selection Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for photos on the concourse from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., as the Lady Lions prepare to take on the Hawkeyes. There will be a $5 donation asked for each autograph or photo opportunity with Johnson with ALL proceeds going towards the THINK PINK Day fund.
