The Penn State Wrestling Club held its annual awards banquet on Sunday at the Nittany Lion Inn, and senior Phil Davis (Harrisburg, Pa.) was honored as the team's Most Outstanding Wrestler, capping a stellar career that saw the Harrisburg native cement his place in Penn State's history books. Penn State Student-Athletes Earn 54 Academic All-Big Ten Winter Honors
Fifty-four Nittany Lion student-athletes, representing seven winter sports, have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Penn State's 54 honorees ranks second among Big Ten institutions and brings the Lions' all-time total to 2,933 over the last 14 years, including 135 selections during the 2007-2008 school year. Two Penn State Nittany Lion wrestlers entered the championship finals of the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championships just one win away from a prestigious individual title. Senior Phil Davis (Harrisburg, Pa.) dominated Central Michigan's Wynn Michalak to claim the national crown at 197 and spur Penn State on to a superb third place finish in the team race. Penn State's other finalist; sophomore Bubba Jenkins (Virginia Beach, Va.) dropped a hard-fought 14-8 decision in his title tilt at 149. Read More >>
