Summer 2007: Ryan participated in three meets during the summer season. He finished sixth in the 800 freestyle and 16th in the 200 backstroke and was also on the ninth place 400 free relay team at the Charlotte Ultraswim of the Grand Prix series. He followed that up a ninth place finish in the 200 free and a fourth place in the 100 back at the Mid-Atlantic Senior Championships. He also swam in the 400 free at U.S. Nationals.

2006-07: Ryan swam a career best time in the 200 freestyle, which was one of three events he swam in at Big Ten Championships. He scored points for the second straight year at Big Ten's in the 500 free and also swam in the 200 backstroke. He had the top time of the year on the team in the 500 free and the fourth best times of the year on the team in both the 200 free and 200 back. He swam an NCAA `B' time in the 500 free but came up short in qualifying for NCAAs. His best finish of the year was a second place and he also had one third and one fourth place finish on the year.
Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Came in seventh in the 200 free and fifth in the 200 back at the dual meet at West Virginia....Placed eighth in the 1000 free and seventh in the 200 back at the Purdue Duals....Picked up points for the Nittany Lions in four different events at the Bell Grand Prix: the 200 free (14th place), 500 free (7th place), 200 back (16th place) and as part of the 800 free relay team (8th place). Also swam his fastest times of the year in all three of his main events at the BGP...Finished second in the 1000 free in the dual meet vs. West Chester....Came in fifth in the 200 free and fourth in the 200 back in the dual meet vs. Rutgers....Placed sixth in the 500 free, ninth in the 200 back and was on the third place 800 free relay team at the Shamrock Invitational....Picked up points for Penn State with a 15th place finish in the 500 free at Big Ten championships.

2005-06: Ryan became one of the Nittany Lions' top distance freestyle swimmers during his freshman season. He competed in mainly the 500 and 1000 freestyle as well as the 100 and 200 backstroke and also saw time in the 200 freestyle. At the Big Ten Championships, he placed 12th in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 backstroke to earn points for the Nittany Lions. He swam his best times of the year in the 200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 200 backstroke at the Big Ten Championships. On the year, he won five individual events, including an impressive double in one dual meet, capturing both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. He was also a part of one first place relay team.
Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Placed third in the 1000 free and second in the 500 free at the dual meet vs. Ohio State....Won the 1000 free and 500 free at the dual meet vs. Kenyon....Placed fifth in the 500 free at the Shamrock Invitational....Won the 1000 free and finished second in the 100 back at the dual meet with St. Bonaventure....Won the 500 free at the dual meet with Florida....Gained points for Penn State in the 500 free (6th place), 200 back (16th place) and on the 800 free relay team (13th place) at the Ohio State Invitational....Placed second in the 200 free and third in the 100 back at the dual meet vs. West Chester....Part of the first place 400 medley relay team and also finished third in the 200 free at the dual meet vs. LaSalle....Won the 1000 free event in his first collegiate meet, the dual meet with West Virginia.

High School: DeWeese was a member of five junior national swim teams and five senior national swim teams during his high school and club team days in Virginia. He swam at Midlothian High School and for the Poseidon Swimming Club. In the summer of 2004, he was second in the 200 backstroke at the Junior Nationals at Stanford and sixth in the 800 free. That same year at Senior Nationals, he was 12th in the 200 back and 28th in the 800 free.

Personal: DeWeese lists sports and movies as hobbies. He is the son of Jeff and Virginia Weese and has one sister, Sarah. An outstanding student, DeWeese was on the MHS Distinguished Honor Roll throughout his high school career.
