Summer 2007: Ryan participated in three meets during the summer season. He finished sixth in the 800 freestyle and 16th in the 200 backstroke and was also on the ninth place 400 free relay team at the Charlotte Ultraswim of the Grand Prix series. He followed that up a ninth place finish in the 200 free and a fourth place in the 100 back at the Mid-Atlantic Senior Championships. He also swam in the 400 free at U.S. Nationals. 2006-07: Ryan swam a career best time in the 200 freestyle, which was one of three events he swam in at Big Ten Championships. He scored points for the second straight year at Big Ten's in the 500 free and also swam in the 200 backstroke. He had the top time of the year on the team in the 500 free and the fourth best times of the year on the team in both the 200 free and 200 back. He swam an NCAA `B' time in the 500 free but came up short in qualifying for NCAAs. His best finish of the year was a second place and he also had one third and one fourth place finish on the year. 2005-06: Ryan became one of the Nittany Lions' top distance freestyle swimmers during his freshman season. He competed in mainly the 500 and 1000 freestyle as well as the 100 and 200 backstroke and also saw time in the 200 freestyle. At the Big Ten Championships, he placed 12th in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 backstroke to earn points for the Nittany Lions. He swam his best times of the year in the 200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 200 backstroke at the Big Ten Championships. On the year, he won five individual events, including an impressive double in one dual meet, capturing both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. He was also a part of one first place relay team. High School: DeWeese was a member of five junior national swim teams and five senior national swim teams during his high school and club team days in Virginia. He swam at Midlothian High School and for the Poseidon Swimming Club. In the summer of 2004, he was second in the 200 backstroke at the Junior Nationals at Stanford and sixth in the 800 free. That same year at Senior Nationals, he was 12th in the 200 back and 28th in the 800 free. Personal: DeWeese lists sports and movies as hobbies. He is the son of Jeff and Virginia Weese and has one sister, Sarah. An outstanding student, DeWeese was on the MHS Distinguished Honor Roll throughout his high school career.
