High School: Earned two varsity letters in swimming in his junior and senior seasons at Unionville High School in Unionville, Pa....Also earned three letters in lacrosse....Finished fifth in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 freestyle at the PIAA state meet his junior year and was on the state championship 200 medley relay team his senior year....Was a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society....Graduated with a 4.17 grade point average.

Personal: John was born on March 28, 1989 in Bryn Mawr, Pa....The son of John and Mary Austin, he has an older brother, Mike (29), a younger brother, Shane (15), and an older sister, Jen (32)....His older brother, Mike, also attended Penn State and his younger brother is also a swimmer....Intends to major in mechanical engineering....Lists scuba diving as a hobby.

Why I Chose Penn State: "I really liked the way the whole swimming team got along with each other. I also liked the overall university atmosphere."
