Matt Bernier comes to Penn State from Philadelphia suburb Drexel Hill and Malvern Prep. A big, physical defender, Bernier will hope to have an early impact on Penn State's fortunes in 2008.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL:
Bernier helped lead Malvern Prep to the state title in 2006 and league titles in 2005 and 2007. As a senior, he had 97 ground balls, one goal and four assists. A four-year lacrosse letterman, Bernier also lettered in football and was First Honors recipient as well. He is the son of Joanne and Charles Bernier. Both his brothers, Charles and Brian, are Penn State graduates as well. Enrolled in the division of undergraduate studies (DUS) at Penn State.
COACHES VIEW:
"Matt is a good athlete who should be able to adapt well to the college game. As he becomes more comfortable with this level, his chances for playing time on close defense will increase." - Coach Thiel
