UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 11, 2006 ¨C Penn State men¡¯s gymnastics assistant coach and former NCAA champion Kevin Tan has been selected to the 2006 Men¡¯s Senior Team, USA Gymnastics announced this week. For the former six-time All-American, it will mark the third year that he will compete as a member of the national squad.

Tan was named to the team based on his outstanding performance at the prestigious 2006 Winter Cup, held on Feb. 2 and Feb. 4 in Las Vegas, Nev. The 2004 Penn State graduate captured the still rings title, compiling an aggregate score of 31.350 over the two-day event. He also placed fifth on the pommel horse and seventh on the parallel bars.

The Men¡¯s Senior Team brings together 15 of the nation¡¯s best gymnasts to represent the United States in international competition. The 2006 team has a strong Big Ten influence, as six members are current or former gymnasts from affiliated schools.

A member of Penn State's 2004 NCAA championship team, Tan was the Nittany Lions' first back-to-back NCAA champion on the still rings, earning titles in 2003 and 2004. Tan was named assistant men's gymnastics coach last summer after serving as an undergraduate assistant last season while completing his degree in finance. In November of 2005, Tan represented the United States at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Melbourne, Australia.

Penn State, currently ranked No. 6 in the nation, returns to meet competition on Sun., Feb. 19 when it takes on No. 4 Stanford in the second of three home duals this season. The battle between the Nittany Lions and the Cardinal will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center, with competition set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
