Kevin Tan Wins Second Consecutive Rings Crown at Winter Cup Challenge

LAS VEGAS; February 10, 2007 ¨C Penn State assistant coach Kevin Tan captured the still rings championship Saturday night in the finals of the 2007 Winter Cup Challenge, giving him titles in the event in back-to-back years. The former Nittany Lion standout dominated the competition, topping the second-place finisher by more than one point.

Tan, who captained the U.S. Men¡¯s Senior Team last year at the World Championships, pre-qualified for the team in 2007 before the Winter Cup, but his performance confirms his status as the nation¡¯s finest still rings performer and a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

Competing as a member of Team Chevron, Tan also placed 12th in the parallel bars and 21st in both the pommel horse and high bar.

Penn State¡¯s other Winter Cup finals qualifier, junior Vladi Klurman (North Miami Beach, Fla.), competed in four events. His best finish came in the still rings, a 16th-place showing. He also placed 23rd in the vault, 29th in the parallel bars, and 31st in the pommel horse.

Klurman and the second-ranked Nittany Lions will return to team competition on Sat., Feb. 17 when it hosts Big Ten rival No. 5 Illinois in a 7 p.m. dual meet at Rec Hall.
