Penn State University is proud to host the 2008 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships from April 4-5 at historic Rec Hall in University Park, Pa. The six teams that compose the nation's elite men's gymnastics conference will descend upon Happy Valley to vie for team and individual titles throughout the two-day event. All-session and single session tickets are currently available.
Penn State alum and current assistant coach Kevin Tan has established himself as not only one the top gymnasts in the United States but the world. Under the guidance of Penn State head coach Randy Jepson, the former six-time All-American and two-time NCAA rings title-winner has developed into an elite international competitor and champion. He now has his sights set on a spot on the U.S. Olympic team and a berth to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
In 2007, the Penn State captured its NCAA-record 12th national championship at home in Rec Hall in epic, come-from-behind fashion. The Nittany Lions posted a season high team score to secure 16-year head coach Randy Jepson his third team title.
Senior captain Matt Cohen became Penn State's fifth Nissen-Emery Award winner when he was named the 2007 recipient last April. Bestowed in recognition of outstanding athletic achievement, academic excellence, and sportsmanship, the Nissen-Emery Award is the highest honor presented in collegiate gymnastics. An outstanding leader in the classroom and the gym, Matt personified the ideals of physical, mental, social, and moral excellence upon which the award is based throughout his brilliant career.
Centrally located on the Penn State campus, the White Building has been home to Nittany Lion men's gymnastics team since 1976. Situated just one block from the dormitory that houses many of the Penn State gymnasts, it was extensively renovated during the summer and fall of 2000. The gym's design and its amenities make it the finest collegiate gymnastics facility in the nation.
