The Nittany Lions had four wide receivers with 30 or more receptions last season, three of whom will be seniors this fall. Several players, including James McDonald, have provided depth at the position and are working toward earning a more significant role in the wideout rotation. He has good size, skills and athleticism and made significant progress during winter conditioning and spring drills. The coaching staff recognized McDonald's efforts, as he was named the recipient of the 2008 Red Worrell Award. The honor is presented to the offensive player whose spring contribution is most worthy of special tribute. The award was first presented in 1958 and is named in honor of the late Red Worrell, who was electrocuted in an accident after an exceptional season on the 1957 Nittany Lion freshman team. Among the former Worrell recipients is wideout Terrell Golden, who won the 2007 honor. McDonald is one of 10 returning Nittany Lions from metropolitan Washington, D.C.

2007 Junior Season
McDonald made a 10-yard reception in the win over Florida International. He also saw action against Wisconsin, Indiana and Temple. He was on the field for 31 snaps.

2006 Sophomore Season
McDonald made his first collegiate reception, gaining eight yards against Temple.

2005 Freshman Season
Redshirt season.

High School
McDonald was a standout in football and basketball at Dunbar HS. He was named to the Washington Post All-Met team as a senior and was All-DC I-AA first-team for three seasons for Coach Craig Jeffries. During his senior season, he made 47 receptions for 915 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also was the first freshman at Dunbar to play both varsity basketball and football. He helped the football team win three city championships and the basketball team one title. McDonald played in the 2005 Good Samaritan Bowl.

Full name is James Lorenzo McDonald. He is the son of Dena Wynn. He has three siblings -- brothers Anthony Jr. and Anthony F. and sister Tamia. McDonald is interested in marketing and lists drawing and writing as hobbies. Born January 17, 1987 in Washington, D.C.
