They have passed the torch of the program's legacy of academic success to returning members of the squad, with Gerald Cadogan a prime candidate to be leading the charge. A starter at guard in five games last season, Cadogan is one of the squad's top students, owning a 3.59 grade-point average through the spring semester. A rehabilitation services and psychology major, Cadogan was named to the Dean's List last spring by earning a superlative 3.92 GPA, among the top three performances by a returning squad member. During the 2006 fall semester, he gained Dean's List recognition with a 3.67 GPA. Cadogan was the squad's fourth ESPN The Magazine Academic all-district honoree last year and has earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades twice. He is an active member of Penn State's Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB), participating in the Penn Pals program and other community service activities. The hard-working and talented Cadogan has the opportunity to play a significant role on the offensive line this season. The strong and athletic lineman finished spring drills as the top candidate at left tackle.

2006 Junior Season Playing in 11 games, Cadogan was instrumental in helping the Nittany Lions rush for a season-high 389 yards against Youngstown State, their highest total in four years, and gain 233 yards rushing against Northwestern. At Purdue, Cadogan and the O-Line paved the way for 240 yards on the ground. The Lions rushed for 212 yards against Temple to record Penn State's fourth 200-yard rushing game of the season. He helped Tony Hunt become just the sixth Nittany Lion to compile a pair of 1,000-yard rushing seasons and move into second place in career rushing with 3,320 yards. Cadogan was on the field for 384 snaps, with a season-high 82 at Minnesota.

2005 Sophomore Season
Cadogan worked his way to No. 2 on the depth chart at left tackle behind Brown, playing against Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois. He was on the field for 41 snaps, including 32 in the win at Illinois. He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
