Dick Anderson

Player Profile

Position:
Asst. Coach, OL/Guards & Centers

Offensive Line (Guards & Centers)

In his 31st year on the staff, Dick Anderson is in his ninth season working with the centers and guards. He helped develop a 2007 unit that opened lanes for Rodney Kinlaw to become Penn State's fourth 1,000-yard rusher in the past six seasons, led by All-Big Ten center A.Q. Shipley and guard Rich Ohrnberger. Anderson helped mold a unit that paved the way for Larry Johnson to become just the ninth 2,000-yard rusher in NCAA history in 2002. He coached the quarterbacks from 1993-99, with his initial two pupils -- Kerry Collins and Wally Richardson -- matriculating to the NFL, with Collins leading the New York Giants to Super Bowl XXXV. Anderson returned to Penn State in 1990 after six seasons as head coach at Rutgers, working with the offensive line from 1990-92. He turned out some exceptional performers during his 1973-83 stint on the Lions' staff, including Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Munchak. From Queens, N.Y., Anderson played both ways at end for Coach Rip Engle at Penn State from 1960-62. He was a graduate assistant on Engle's staff in 1963 and 1964. Anderson's tenure at Rutgers included a 21-16 win over Penn State in 1988, Rutger's first win in the series in 70 years.
