With the departure of Matt Ogrodnik, the southpaw who broke school records for appearances in each of the last two years, there is a need for a left-handed reliever out of the bullpen who may be called upon often. After a redshirt freshman year in which he pitched sparingly in his first taste of collegiate baseball, David Lutz may be the pitcher to fill this role. He pitched well at the end of the last year, even making an appearance in the Big Ten Tournament. Developing a reliable lefty reliever out of the bullpen will be a priority for the Nittany Lions this year, and David should have every opportunity to be this pitcher. He should be helped along by his smarts, as he has one of the best grade point averages on the team.
