July 25, 2007 Q. Why are the levels increasing? A.Members of the Nittany Lion Club support Penn State's entire program by providing grant-in-aid support to student-athletes in all 29 varsity sports. During the past decade, our facilities have changed significantly as the result of construction and renovation. Tuition has risen substantially, as have the costs for transportation, day-to-day operations and academic and medical support for our student-athletes. Because of those changes, many of which we cannot control, we need your increased support to maintain our level of excellence. Q. How does this impact game-day costs? A. Prices for tickets and parking have always been evaluated annually, and are separate from NLC giving levels that provide the A. While we hope that you would continue to support our outstanding student-athletes, if you choose not to renew your membership you will forfeit your season tickets and the other membership benefits related to your level of giving. Q. If the cost of my membership goes up, does the amount that's tax deductible increase? A. Yes, a contribution to the Nittany Lion Club that entitles the contributor to purchase football and basketball tickets is 80 percent deductible as a charitable contribution for income tax purposes. Q. Does this mean we are reseating the stadium? A. Reseating is an increasingly popular option with many of the Division I schools. Unlike most of the Big Ten schools and other major programs around the nation we have opted to not reseat Beaver Stadium at this time. Q. What new membership benefits are included with the increases? A. We are constantly striving to provide the best quality of service and membership benefits. Our weekly emails, enhanced newsletter, game day customer service improvements, sports highlights dvd, an upgraded and interactive website and member discounts are just some of the new benefits planned for the future. Q. Will this change affect my 2007 football tickets? A. No, this change will not affect your 2007 football tickets. These changes are for the 2008 membership year which begins July 1, 2007. Renewals for the 2008 membership year will be mailed in late fall and are due by February 1, 2008 to maintain your season tickets for the 2008 football season and the 2008-09 basketball seasons. Q. Can I receive a "refund" of my contribution if I do not receive a specific donor benefit? A. Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics depends upon philanthropy to provide our student-athletes with the support they need to excel. Whenever possible, we recognize the generosity of our donors through special ticket, parking, and event opportunities. The availability of these benefits will vary from year to year, however, and it may not always be possible to extend them to every donor on an annual basis. Therefore, gifts made to Penn State are not refundable.
