PA Athletic Trainer Licensure
Q: What will are the clinical assignments? Where will I be assigned?

A: Assignments are made based on several factors. Placement is available in three different athletic training rooms on campus. Graduate assistants work out of the Bryce Jordan Center, East Area Locker Room and Recreation Hall. This allows the graduate assistant to see a variety of different athletic settings from contact to chronic injury. Team assignments aren't given until later in the summer prior to the onset of your first semester. Team assignments will be rotated your second year to allow for the graduate assistant to have a variety of exposures to different athletic settings.

Q: What are my responsibilities like? Will I supervise athletic training students?

A: You will be paired with an athletic trainer on staff and work with a team or teams in your clinical location. This mentorship approach allows you to have levels of autonomy while still being trained and instructed in manual techniques. All GA's will go through approved clinical instructor training (ACI Training) which will allow you to mentor, supervise and work with athletic training students here at Pennsylvania State University.

Q: When do I start?

A: The assistantship is a 10 month paid position which starts August 1st and finishes at the end of May. Graduate assistants are expected to report at that time.

Q: What courses are offered and where do I take my courses?

A: The degree awarded is given through the Pennsylvania State University - Harrisburg campus. Graduate assistants will take one course at the Harrisburg campus per week, while their remaining course work is on the University Park campus. This gives the graduate assistant flexibility within their degree interests allowing them to choose from many different course offerings on the University Park campus.
