Penn State On The Air Exhibit Open at Penn State All-Sports Museum

Sept. 27, 2007

To honor many of the individuals that have covered the Nittany Lions through the years, the Penn State All-Sports Museum has opened a new exhibit, "Penn State On The Air."

"Penn State On the Air" provides an overview of Penn State Sports in the media from the early days of stringer reporting in the early 1900s to the advent of the Big Ten Network, the national TV network that launched in August. This exhibit centers on those individuals who have lent their pen, voice, and talent to bringing Penn State Athletics to life throughout the years.

In addition, the exhibit will allow visitors to experience Penn State's greatest sports moments through original radio and television accounts. It will also allow returning alumni and friends a unique opportunity to reconnect and relive memories from their past.

One of the exhibit's features includes an interactive touchscreen that allows visitors to identify and learn about individuals who have covered Penn State in print or on radio and television. As part of this interactive touchscreen, visitors can view on-demand video that provides a sample(s) of a given broadcaster's work. For example, tap on Steve Jones' and fans can pick and view eight different plays with Steve providing the play-by-play.

In addition to Jones, the play-by-play voice of the Nittany Lion basketball and football teams, many others who have broadcast or written about Penn State Athletics through the years are featured in the exhibit. They include: Fran Fisher, George Paterno, Jim Tarman, Jack Ham, Mickey Bergstein, Bob Prince, Nelson Goldberg, Ridge Riley, Joe Mason and Jerry Fisher, the longtime play-by-play voice of the Lady Lion basketball team.

To date, the Penn State All-Sports Museum has welcomed more than 150,000 visitors through the doors in 5 ½ years to view the relics, learn the history and meet some of the outstanding student-athletes behind all of the university's varsity sports programs, past and present.

The Penn State All-Sports museum and gift shop's normal operating hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. each week. The museum is closed on Monday and home football Saturdays.
